A YEAR AFTER SWACHH BHARAT ABHIYAN No positive change in sanitary conditions of Amritsar. It has been exactly a year since the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan was launched amid much fanfare in the city on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation. However, nothing seems to have changed on the ground because key commercial and residential areas continue to be dotted with heaps of garbage while the Municipal Corporation remains ill-equipped to handle garbage collection in the city due to lack of adequate infrastructure and funds. Heaps of garbage are an eyesore for tourists visiting the holy city and cause unhygienic conditions for the city residents to live in. These can easily be spotted on the roadsides well past noon.
