Welcome to the web home for Gurdwara Sahib Khalsa Diwan Society, Victoria. It is one of the oldest Gurdwara Sahib in North America and has one of the largest congregations in Vancouver Island area of British Columbia province. Khalsa Diwan Gurdwara Victoria and first biggest Gurdwara (Sikh Temple). This Gurdwara is the first Gurdwara, in the history of Canada, UK and Europe, to be purchased and used purely for the purpose of worship by the Sikh Community.

The Khalsa Diwan Society is a non-profit organisation, located in the city of Victoria provincial capital city of British Columbia state of Canada. It was established in 1912 and is one of the most prominent and influential Sikh Gurdwaras in the world. The Gurdwara sahib is open 7 days a week and holds daily programs for local Sikhs and visitors to pray and seek blessings. It has more than 1000 weekly congregation.

With the almighty WaheGuru’s blessings we had a Gurdwara where it became possible for the Sikh Community from Victoria to be able congregate under one roof and worship the name of God. Eventually, the temple outgrew its size constraints. In 1969 the original temple building was demolished to make way for a new and larger temple, this time costing $200,000, on the same site. Atop its 41 steps is the most glorious vista in Victoria. On completion of 100 years of establishment of Gurdwara Sahib in Victoria various leaders and members of the House sent in their good wishes. Federal Immigration & Multiculturism Minister Jason Kenney, Premier Christy Clark & local MLAs joined the local community in congratulating the Sikh community for 100 years in Victoria.

Now the Gurdwara complex consists of 1 main hall, having a the capacity to hold more than 500 members of the congregation at one time. The other 2 halls include 1 Langar hall.

The Gurdwara has programs running continuously throughout the day. The programmes begin daily when Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji arrives from the Sachkhand Sahib into the main hall in the early hours of the morning. Prayers (Nitnem) commence, then Sri Asa Ji Di Waar Kirtan is sung by the Sikh musicians (Ragi's). Programmes run continuously everyday till dusk when Rehraas Sahib starts which then begins the evening services at the Gurdwara Sahib. Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji is taken back to the Sachkhand Sahib at the end of services in the evening. Throughout the day Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji presides over the Sikh congregations. This is the daily-routine of religious service (Maryada) at Gurdwara Victoria.

Throughout the day Sikhs and non Sikhs attend the Gurdwara Sahib to worship and visit the beautiful Gurdwara complex. Guru Ka Langar (free community kitchen) is served everyday for 365 days a year.

Since its establishment, Gurdwara Victoria has been consistently involved in providing help and sharing (Vand Chakna) with the needy and homeless people around the world, especially during disasters. During hurricane Katrina, the Tsunami in Thailand, and earthquakes in South Asia and Haiti.
